The mining industry shows interest in biodiversity credits. Biodiversity credits open the door for new types of actors who want to invest in better biodiversity.

This was highlighted when Aleksandra Holmlund, CEO of Qarlbo Biodiversity, spoke for the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala.

During a subsequent roundtable discussion, Hans Djurberg, sustainability manager at the mining company Kaunis Iron, noted that trading in biodiversity credits is an interesting solution.

With biodiversity credits as a market mechanism, efforts to protect biodiversity can be advanced. By assigning a monetary value to preserved or restored nature, alongside the sale of timber, forest owners can be compensated for providing a utility that society demands.
