Our Qarlbo Nature+® Forest Management Strategy aims to create value with more biophysically resilient assets through improvement of biodiversity in our forests.

• Most forest investments today are certified according to a global standard and thereby classified as sustainable.

• Despite forest certification, there has been a decline in forest biodiversity globally.

• Inadequate measures to protect and restore forests are leading to biodiversity loss and less resilient forests – harming both nature and financial returns.

• Additional measures are required to future-proof forests and the forest industry around the world.

• As a response to this challenge, we have developed our Qarlbo Nature+® Forest Management Strategy, which defines our ambition towards nature-positive contributions in our forest management and how we are going to achieve it.

Our Goals

Our forest management goals are:

1. To sustainably grow the wood resource applying FSC certification as our baseline
2. To sequester carbon and achieve effective net CO2 uptake
3. To deliver positive biodiversity outcomes beyond FSC requirements and sell biodiversity credits by protecting at least 20% of portfolio area and implementing Qarlbo Nature+ ® Forest Management on the whole portfolio area. We will also actively promote biodiversity on an additional 20% of the portfolio area, integrating production areas with biodiversity restoration. This is above and beyond FSC certification requirements.

Practical and science-based methodology

Our team has developed a proprietary methodology for biodiversity credits from production forests. Research led by CEO Aleksandra Holmlund provided the foundation of this methodology, which was further developed by our Impact Director, Martin Pilstjärna. The methodology has been tested in several geographies and is currently in the process of a scientific peer-review.
