Qarlbo Biodiversity, a global leader in nature-positive production forestry investments, has been selected to join the European Commission’s Expert Group on Nature Credits. As a member of the Expert Group, the company will help develop a market-based nature credit system designed to mobilize private investment in nature-positive initiatives across Europe.
Nature credits are a voluntary mechanism for channelling private capital into investments that protect, conserve and restore nature. By quantifying nature-positive actions like carbon sequestration, increased biodiversity and habitat protection, landowners can create fungible and tradeable assets.
“As a leader in developing transparent, verifiable frameworks for biodiversity and carbon credits, Qarlbo Biodiversity is committed to contributing our technical expertise and practical experience to the design of the European Commission’s Nature Credit System and to safeguarding a vital public interest: biodiversity,” says Aleksandra Holmlund, CEO of Qarlbo Biodiversity.
The newly established expert group brings together leaders from business, civil society, academia and the public sector across Europe. It will advise the European Commission on how nature credits should be designed, certified and implemented in practice – from common criteria and measurement methods to building a transparent and credible market for nature credits. The goal is to ensure high integrity and establish clear rules for all actors investing in nature-positive initiatives.
